If you happened upon the Other Side last month on just the right night, you might have thought you miraculously stepped into World War II-era America. From wall to wall, models looked their pin-up best, channeling the spirits of Bettie Page and Rita Hayworth. And while their style harkened back to the beauty icons of generations past, alas, you were still in present- day Doylestown.
And while the vintage look may seemingly be a relic of yesteryear, for Valerie Weber, owner of Dermagrafix Aesthetic Center, it’s just as evocative today. “The pin-up era represents classic beauty, and it still does today,” she says. “Our contest was designed to find a spokesmodel for our brand but also served as a means for us to reach out to other local businesses in the community.”
Teaming with Miracolo Hair Studio, who provided hair-styling services, Annie Sez and Something Else, who supplied clothes, and Sweet Blossoms Lingerie, who provided the night’s sexy edge, Weber successfully evoked the allure of the classic models while providing a memorable and fun night for all. And in true pin-up form, local photographer Brandon Pittam will be photographing the models in an effort to raise money for the Susan G. Kormen Breast Cancer Foundation.
And for anyone wondering about Weber’s ability to craft beauty, they needn’t look any further than her business or her credentials. Located at 123 S. Main St. on the second floor, Dermagrafix specializes in two areas: skin care and permanent cosmetics. “We look at skin care as ongoing process,” she explains. “We tailor all our treatments to every one of our clients’ individual needs.” Weber is a member of the Society of Permanent Makeup Professionals and certified as a Permanent Cosmetic Professional.
And beyond simple attention and diligence, Weber also finds success. “A lot of our clients say they’ve tried everything, but the only thing they haven’t tried is what actually works,” she says. “We can address their issues and get results.”
But for those dealing with circumstances even further beyond their control, Weber offers a solution as well. From to cancer survivors to those suffering from alopecia, from those with poor vision to perhaps clients whose old beauty habits left them a little worse for wear, permanent cosmetic applications provide a beneficial alternative.
“It’s usually the eyebrows, eye liner and lip liner,” she explains. “But it’s not just for those with a necessity either. A lot of our clients are younger, and they look at it as a convenience.”
