Happy New Year, and welcome to 2010!  It’s hard to believe a decade has already passed since the world was bracing for a CPU-induced Armageddon that doomsayers predicted would set us back to a Stone Age-like existence.  But for fans of the apocalypse, it’s only a short two-year wait if you’re picking up what the Mayans are putting down.

Me?  I’m more of a “Live long and prosper guy” – the sentiment, not so much the show.  My only complaint is that my adolescent Robert Zemeckis-induced vision of the times a la “Back to the Future II” doesn’t seem like it will come to fruition.  Hoverboards, 3-D movie marquees and auto-fitting clothes will just have to wait.

But enough pontificating about the future and what it may or may not hold.  Like many of you, we look forward to flipping the calendar and welcoming a clean slate. And here in the publishing world, we have a few resolutions of our own.

In case you haven’t noticed lately, we have some competition.  It’s a testament to the people in this area that a relatively small town can support more than even one magazine.  Now don’t get me wrong.  Competition is good.  Competition is healthy.  Still, you need to be different.

So what can you expect from us in 2010?  Firstly, the same local flavor we’ve always given you.  We live here, we work here, and we play here.  I doubt you can take a walk through town without passing at least one – but probably more – of our respective homes or apartments.  We’re as much part of this town’s success as you, and we hope that authentic hometown perspective continues to grace every page of dtown.

And while our focus remains squarely on our little slice of the world, we hope to also bring you stories you won’t find anywhere else - not in our competitor’s publications, not in regional magazines, not even in the national monthlies.  We may not be working with the budgets of a Conde Naste or a Rodale Press, but that doesn’t mean we should set our creative bar any lower.  From the serious to the quirky, from the eye-opening to the comical, we hope to open your eyes and minds to a different take on the world.

But for now, please welcome 2010 with us, and have a safe, wonderful and prosperous New Year.
