Owners: Matt and Kelcey Lucas
Breed: Patches: Beagle/Whippet/Terrier mix (?).
Maizy: Yorkshire Terrier/Lhasa Apso mix.
Ages: Patches, 8.5 years old, and Maizy, 3 years old.
The story of Patches and Maizy begins on a sour note but finishes with a happy ending. Patches was rescued from a shelter in Illinois after he was found in a box on the side of a road with a litter of puppies. The Lucas’ best guess is that he’s a beagle, whippet and terrier mix, but without a DNA test, they can’t be sure.
Maizy’s saga began in Trenton, where she was found starving, very sick and the collar she wore actually embedded in her skin. Ever the dog-lovers, the Lucas’ spent months nursing her back to health. Unfortunately, Maizy suffers from a congenital heart valve defect.
Still, despite their tough pasts, you couldn’t ask for a more loving pair of companions. Maizy and Patches spend their days wrestling, snuggling and chasing the audacious squirrels from their yard. When not entertaining each other or keeping a close watch, Maizy and Patches love their walks through town with Matt and Kelcey. And after all, who deserves the joys of a family more?
