Carter’s story is one of both dedication and determination. At only five months old, he was diagnosed with hip dysplasia, an abnormal formation in the hip socket that can lead to painful arthritis or crippling lameness. Eric Moyer’s breeder offered to put Carter down and give him another puppy, but dog and owner were already a team.
Carter’s love of chasing his favorite ball led to a torn ACL just before he turned a year old. Without luck on his side, he retore the ligament while in recovery after attempting to play with another dog. Still, in true Carter fashion, he and his beloved owner worked through his health troubles.
While Carter has endured another surgery on his leg since, he seemed clear of any health issues. Then, on an early spring day this year while chasing his ball again, Carter tore his left ACL. Moyer was again faced with the choice of putting him down or nursing him through his injuries. Naturally, Carter still greets Moyer every morning with a spirit that can’t be tamed.
